Newscopy: "This is how Funston Playground looked during the war years, when it was a GI tent camp and site of a WAC barracks - with a high board fence running down the center to separate the boys from the girls. Army trucks tore up the turf and the rains turned the place into a quagmire. During the United Nations Conference in 1945 the special United Nations police were billeted here."
