Newscopy: "For the Arkansas st. traveler the going is rough here. The intersection at 19th and Arkansas sts. is pocked with crannies which can be tooth-jarring to the motorist who drives over them. The street is passable--although city signs proclaiming it "Not a Through Street" and warning "No Vehicles or Pedestrians Beyond This Point" are still up. They've been there ever since the Western Pacific railroad tunnel fire last July, which forced scores of residents to leave their homes, caused a street cave-in. 'Almost a year has passed since the fire and cave-ins,' complains Van D. Hedges of 406 Arkansas, 'yet the area still looks like a....[cuts off]; ARKANSAS AND 19th...STILL LOOKING LIKE A 'BOMBED-OUT RUIN FROM WORLD WAR II'".
