Newscopy: Novelist Kathleen Norris (above) reminisces about her family and friends in "Family Gathering," an informal autobiography published by Doubleday. A resident of Palo Alto, California, Mrs. Norris--like so many of the heroines of her romantic novels--grew up in carefree poverty in San Francisco, and achieved phenomenal success and a writer. Her new book is illustrated with photographs, and filled with anecdotes about her prominent friends and relatives.

All requests for permission to publish from photographs must be submitted in writing to the Photo Curator. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.
