Text from negative sleeve: "Ed Stockwell was an old schoolmate of mine, and lived on Downey Ave. only a couple blocks from us when we came to Los Angeles. He joined the Heavy Artillery. The soldiers are lining up to get their pay. The line up. Ed Stockwell second from left. Ed Stockwell reaching over for his pay after it was counted out. A Very fine photo of Ed. So good that when his mother saw it, she came to me and borrowed the film and had a lot of portraits made from it."
