Printed on back: "Surrounded by a bevy of his famous beauties, Showman Earl Carroll is shown about to break a bottle of perfume over the door of the Geary Theatre where the 'Earl Carroll Vanities' open Christmas night (Monday). The breaking of perfume is a tradition with Carroll and each girl who captures a cup or spongeful of the liquid is guaranteeing good luck for herself for the duration of the performance. Carroll arrived in San Francisco yesterday to put finishing touches on the show, which will run two weeks. Behind him is the famous Carroll watchword 'Through These Portals Pass the Most Beautiful Girls in the World.'".
