All requests for permission to publish from photographs must be submitted in writing to the Photo Curator. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.

Text on plaque: "Here on December 4, 1774, Captain Fernando Rivera Moncado, Military commander of California, left his soldiers and with Francisco Palou, chaplain, pushed northward to Point Lobos. These were the first white men to climb this eminence and view the Golden Gate at close range."
