All requests for permission to publish from photographs must be submitted in writing to the Photo Curator. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.

Grandmother's joke was that since she could not be a warrior, so she married one. Alicia was born on March 31, 1930 in Kabanatuan, Philippines. She was the Department Chair of Sociology at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. She married Gallardo and immigrated to the United States in 1972. She advocated for the empowerment of Filipinos for 40 years. She was the vice chair for the California Fil-Am Democratic Caucus, Regional Chair for Asian Pacific Affairs, and President Bill Clinton's White House Conference on the Aging. She received the Woman Warrior of the Year Award and received one of the 100 Influential Women Award.
