Newscopy: "ROUGH GOING ON VAN NESS--David J. McBride, 2815 Steiner-st, ventured too close in his car to excavation under way on traffic-jammed Van ness-av at Bay-st, with results pictured above. Using paving blocks and jack, he put car back where it belonged, and continued on his way. Police complained contractor left intersection 'in a mess,' creating king-sized traffic jams during rush hours."
