Newscopy : "WILL IT EVER BE THUS?--Just when it appeared the hassel (sic) between Traffic Capt. Jack Eker and Charles L. Harney Co. about allowing a freer flow of traffic on Van Ness during track removal operations seemed to be over, this condition develops. Shown here is Van Ness-av at Union-st - one lane open in each direction, and northbound Van Ness autos forced to play curbstone cutie as they make their way around a pile of rubble thoughtfully placed there by Harney steam shovels. Photo was taken during a traffic lull in mid-afternoon... y'shoulda seen it at five o'clock!".
