Newscopy (10/16/48): "It cost 50c to travel by horsedrawn omnibus from downtown San Francisco to the Cliff House. This building, the first Cliff House, was built in 1863. Its foundations were weakened by an explosion in 1887 and in 1894 fire destroyed the structure."
