Folder: S.F. Districts-Presidio-El Polin Spring. Printed on back: "EL POLIN SPRING, on the Presidio reservation, was the source of water supply for the Spanish soldiers and civilians who founded the Presidio in 1776. General Vallejo, in his 'Discurso Historico', noted that some remarkable qualities were popularly attributed to the waters of this spring. Women drinking from it were, so it seems, made unusually prolific, giving birth to twins in many instances. This traditional belief among Californians had its origin in the Indian legend that any maiden who drank of the waters in the full of the moon was assured eternal bliss and many children.".
