Newscopy: "San Francisco is making a bid to regain lost leadership in the field of waterborne trade. Eventually she will have a vast World Trade Center where the nations of the world may display their wares for barter. Right now, as a special service to world traders, San Francisco has its Foreign Trade Zone, a part of which (Pier 45) is shown above. The zone provides storage space for undeclared merchandise, and the privilege of exhibiting, sampling, manipulating, manufacturing or processing that merchandise. Goods in the zone are free from customs laws, and no duty is assessed if the goods are transshipped abroad.".
