Newscopy: "Disregarding the 'No Trespassing' signs, two fishermen duck through a fence opening and head for the Aquatic Park municipal pier. In Federal Government hands since 1942, the pier is about to revert to city ownership. Before it can be reopened, however, it needs about $125,000 worth of repairs; $100,000 for replacing damaged piles, and $25,000 for a rip-rap stone sea wall. The Federal Government allowed fishing off the pier during the war, but has now closed it to motorized traffic. A tug backed into the pier, during its period of Government ownership, damaging some of the piles, and others were found to have been partially eaten away by teredos. A Park Commission survey last August probably will serve as outline for the repair program."
