Printed on back: "Mrs. Ward Walkup and Mrs. Lawrence Anderson of the American Women's Voluntary Services, selling Defense Bonds and Stamps in a Grant Avenue show window, asked a casual passer-by to step into the alcove and have his picture taken with them to oblige the camera-man. 'Not only will I be happy to oblige,' replied the passer-by, 'but I'll buy a thousand-dollar bond.' When he wrote his check it was signed by Samuel Bohne, who, it was revealed, is former baseball player of big league fame. He was not the first to purchase from the young women. That honor went to Grover Magnin, who also purchased a thousand-".
