Newscopy: "A student gripman's mistake today endangered the lives of more than a score of riders as two cable cars collided on the Powell st. hill. Two persons were injured and other riders were shaken up when a cable car came down the hill at an angle after its rear wheels jumped the track. The rear of the car hit an upcoming cable car which was stopped at Powell and Pine sts. to discharge passengers. Police said that Neal Stetler, 30, the student gripman, started down the hill when he still had his foot on the break. This caused the rear wheels to jump the track. His car hit one operated by gripman Josea Williams, 30, of 1209 Scott st. Two passengers seated in the front of Williams' car were treated at Harbor Emergency Hospital for minor injuries. They are Juanita Vanderhoek, 14, of Stockton and Mrs. Ruth Koon, 22, of Sacramento. Traffic was held up at the intersection for 40 minutes before the damaged cars were taken to the shop for repairs.".
