Newscopy: "Speed and comfort are the aims of builders of the new streamlined train, 'City of San Francisco,' which will be placed in operation between San Francisco and Chicago on January 8. Above is the train's locomotive, a three-car power unit developing 5,400 horsepower, awaiting a trial-run. It is said to be the largest Diesel-electric locomotive and can pull a seventeen car train at a speed of one hundred ten miles per hour."

The 'City of San Francisco,' operating over Southern Pacific, Union Pacific and Chicago & Northwestern Lines, will be a 17-car train and have accommodations for 222 passengers. The new power unit, capable of developing 5400 horsepower, is undergoing rigid running tests before it goes into regular service, Southern Pacific announced."
