Folder: Portraits-Bufano, Beniamino-1955.
Newscopy: "OFF TO COLLEGE--Benvenuto Benjamino Bufano is giving almost all his self-owned work of 25 years to Stanford University's art museum, and yesterday was moving day. At left, Benny passes a piece to a Bekin's mover. That's a driftwood harp in the foreground. Bekin's got into the act after Stanford's own 2 1/2-ton stakebed was turned down by bufano as unsuited to a 1 1/2 million dollars worth of imperishable art. He also refused an offer from a kindly Modesto trucker to cart the Crucifixion group down to the Farm in the trucker's refrigerated meat truck. In the center Bufano helps the movers carry the Virgin Mary out of his Greenwich-st studio, while Benny's merchant neighbors offer advice. Bekin's was also offered the job of carting Bufano's two-ton red granite Penguin down to Rickey's Restaurant in Palo Alto, but refused: Pianos, the supervisor explained, are more their line. At right Bufano, holding the head of Mary Magdalene on his lap, waves farewell to friends and puzzled housewives... Exported 256 folders..
This photo is one of three photos taped together. The other two photos are on records aac-9171 and aac-9172.
