On back: "Crewmen from the Military Sea Transportation Service, Pacific Area, undergoing training at Treasure Island, 'shore' or brace a water main in a compartment of the USS BUTTERCUP. The 'Buttercup' is a typical ship's section having a number of compartments fitted out with standard ship furnishings, and floats safely in a shallow-water tank at Treasure Island Naval Station, California. Military Sea Transportation Service is presently engaged in a program of instruction for merchant marine crews, to improve the efficiency in preventing sea disasters. MSTS realizes the increasing needs of America's Merchant Marine and instruction given to crews of commercial ships will include emergency damage repairs, atomic warfare defense and fire fighting --- the essentials of modern seamanship.
