Newscopy: "By Donald Canter. Feb. 24, 1894 - The French Hospital tricolor is hoisted at Geary blvd. and Fifth ave. Joseph Marion, grandfather of Rene Cazenave, managing editor of the News Call Bulletin, sings 'La Marseillaise.' Henri S. Martin, president of the French Benevolent Society, lays the cornerstone for the new French Hospital. Inside the massive granite stone he places a small copper box. Then he speaks in French. His words are not recorded, though old-timers insist their translation in English was something like this: 'Whoever opens this one day will get a kick out of it.' Aug. 7, 1963: The old French Hospital is almost down. A new one is already in operation...".
