Folder: S.F. Bridges-Golden Gate-Cable. Newscopy: "A sight seen by few eyes-the blocks-long Golden Gate Bridge south anchorage installation - is revealed to engineer Oscar Parker (left) and bridge director Daniel F. Del Carlo. They went under-ground to secure samples of two wire sections for a "fatigue test" to determine if the span is capable of carrying rapid transit trains. Samples were selected from a series of 21,000 wires bound together to make up each of the 36-inch cables that suspend the bridge over the Golden Gate.".
