Newscopy: "Here's the reason traffic isn't sailing all the way down Third-st without interruption these days. Work has started on a new six-lane crossing of Islais Creek to replace this old bridge, which has been a traffic bottleneck for years. Traffic currently is diverted around the bridge by way of Army-st and Evans. The new bridge, city engineers promise, will be worth the minor inconveniences of making the detour. Present structure provides only four lanes for traffic feeding off the six lanes of Third-st."
