Newscopy: "NOT MUCH OPEN WATER ACROSS SF BAY NOW--The Narrow gap show above between piers of the cantilever span on the east section of the great San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is all that remains until "brid[g]ing the bay" becomes a reality. The cantilever span, shown in foreground, partly built, will be 1400 feet long, unus[u]al in engineering circles because it is being built by traveler cranes, cantilevering [?] either end to the middle, raising the chords and girders and assembling the bridge entirely on location.".
