Written on back: "One of the early locations of the San Francisco Y.M.C.A. was the building pictured here. Located at 232 Sutter street, opened Nov 16 1869. It was the first building owned by the S.F. Y.M.C.A. on it's own ground and was the first building in the United States to be erected and occupied by a Y.M.C.A. for Y.M.C.A. purposes. The S.F. Y.M.C.A. was organized July 18 1853."
