Newscopy: "Harbor King takes Aboard Passengers. Ferry is moored to Tiburon pier. San Francisco Bay ferries came back to life this afternoon. Whether for a brief interlude or as a regular commuter service remains to be seen. The occasion, which drew hundreds of Marin County political leaders and socialites to the Tiburon waterfront, was a demostration run by Capt. Leo Lomski's Harbor King and Capt. Russell Lewis' smaller but faster Blue Horizon. SMALL CRAFT warnings were up as chill wind whipped the bay, but Marin residents braved the nippy weather as they assembled at the Dock, Tiburon waterfront restaurant and the Marin terminus of the ferry run to the Ferry bldg. here. Many were clad in traditional yachting garb, and more than a few onlookers were doubly protected against the breeze, with sweaters and windbreakers on the outside and silver fizzes on the inside. LOMSKI, WHO had stoutly refused to consider the run as any kind of a 'race,' substituted the Harbor King for the Harbor Tourist, originally scheduled to make the run, because of the King's larger passenger capacity (250). The King, with a 12-knot cruising speed, was the first to leave. The smaller, faster Horizon - 18 knots, 48 passengers - arrived from Sausalito and left for the Ferry Bldg. about five minutes later. Pennants and bunting fluttered from yacht masts as the crowd assembled for the departure, and a Coast Guard patrol boat was on hand for the start of the run. THE EVENT was a demostration which officials of the Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and Tiburon Conservation League hope, will prove the feasibility of ferry service to San Francisco, with at least 159 commuters enlisted at $30 monthly to finance the venture."
