Written on back: "Los Angeles, Cal.: (Above) Sliding sideways into the water, the S.S. Alcoa Polaris, a Z-1 type freighter, is shown when she was launched at the Consolidated Shipyards in Long Beach. The Alcoa Polaris was one of four ships launched locally as Los Angeles observed the nation-wide 'Liberty Fleet Day'. Thousands witnessed the launching. 9-27-41."
