Newscopy: "HERE IS THE SECOND BREAKER--Vast Treasure Island, which is destined to be the greatest airport in the U.S. was the starting point of the latest of Sally Rand's exploits. The famed fan and bubble dancer took off from the Island sunday morning in an attempt to crack the light plane speed record from San Francisco to Reno. Flying in a newly perfected all-metal Luscomb special, Sally did just that. She streaked across the broad acres of Californias fertile valleys, climbed over soaring heights of the majestic sierras and blazed into Reno airport in one hour and 54 mins., beating the old record of 2 hrs. 35 mins, by a considerable margin. Sally, who holds a limited private license from the Dept. of Commerce was flying with Major Monty Mouton. She will buy the plane on her return from Reno. The flight was timed by the N.A.A. She took off from Treasure Islands parking lot at 9:30 after completing some last minute business at her Nude Ranch. She has become quite a Reno commuter in the past few months, and taking off for Reno is like walking across the street."
