Newscopy: BUILDING A CITY OF THE FUTURE. Redesigning San Francisco as it might appear in the year "1999" is the task of these three artists. When completed this large diorama will form a section of the United States Steel Corporation exhibit at the Golden Gate International Exposition on San Francisco Bay. On the extreme left is Donal McLaughlin, associate of Walter Dorwin Teague, nationally known designer, who for more than a year has been planning the redesigned city. With him are Henri Marchand and Henri Marchand Junior, diorama experts, who will build the exhibit under McLaughlin's supervision. When completed the diorama will show San Francisco as it might appear if all building during the next sixty years followed a carefully conceived plan. Traffic hazards have been eliminated largely through adoption of an overhead highway system. Residential sections have been rezoned to afford a maximum of light and air. The industrial district has been removed to the southern extremity of the city where it has been progressively zoned according to industry. When completed the diorama will occupy a space some twenty-five feet in length.
