Newscopy: RITA HAYWORTH, ARRIVING On bulkheads, barracks, bomber noses. BY GEORGE MURPHY. News Staff Reporter. Rita Hayworth, the Love Goddess of the 1940's, arrived here today. The red-haired actress, whose lace - nightgown pinup received more prominence on World War II bulkheads, barrack walls and bomber noses than any other picture of a woman in history, stepped off SP's Lark at 8:35 a.m. With a maid, a dance director and a non-committal smile. SHE'S HERE for the filming of some scenes of "Pal Joey," musical starring herself, Frank Sinatra and Kim Novak. How does she feel about appearing vis-a-vis Miss Novak, who's been touted as potential Love Goddess of this decade? "Oh, that's sort of silly," she smiled: "I really haven't given it any thought at all." THIS WILL be Miss Hayworth's first picture in this country in several years. "She made one in Trinidad with Jack Lemmon and Bob Mitchum," explained a Columbia Pictures press agent, Bob Yaeger, but it hasn't been released yet. "It's called 'Fire Down Below'." MISS HAYWORTH was wearing a tweed coat with a lynx "tuxedo" effect, and under that a blue sweater and a gray skirt. The red hair was piled on top of her head. But she really didn't have much to say. "I love San Francisco, but it's awfully early, isn't it?" "I'M READY for a lot of work now." In desperation, a reporter finally asked: "Have you read any good books lately?" Miss Hayworth pondered prettily, then answered: “No.”
